I chose this knife from 10+ similar chef's knives I took the time to unbox and cook with over the course of a week. This is the knife I kept coming back to over and over. It has a smooth hand, and great maneuverability. The wood grain handle and black stripes at the bolster are classy and have a wonderful "Woodsman" look. The edge is not deadly-sharp, as you find with Henkel's knives (I hate making a small mistake, and bleeding from a razor-sharp knife). In fact, the blade and blade face are smooth and have a chrome-like finish that makes it smooth for my fingers to dance around (I often use the blade to scoop things up from the cutting board). It is indeed made in China. -They basically took all the best traits of Japanese knives (round handle, Damascus Steel) and German knives (nice rocking action from a superior cutting edge arc, and a smooth bolster transitioning the handle to the blade) -the result is a lovely hybrid, which suits me perfectly.
